The word “menjangan” in Bahasa Indonesian means “deer,” and this tiny island is named for the herd of deer that inhabit it.
The “island of deer” is a protected and monitored wildlife sanctuary belonging to the West Bali National Park.
Menjangan island is The water is clear and calm, with a wide variety of fish. For those who appreciate wall diving, the dive sites around Menjangan island are a must. The walls descend to varying depths and offer an abundance of Gorgonian fans and colourful reefs. Fringing the island are shallow reefs with beautiful corals.
Caves crevasses are found at 9 m -12 m and best for underwater photography. The head on current brings in schools of fishes and the extended food chain. Expect to see the blue fin trevallies, big eye trevallies, and occasional black tip reef sharks.
