From Nusa Penida, you can take a speedboat ride for breathtaking views of the island, past impressive rock cliffs, huge waves crashing on barren white sand beaches, and sheer walls descending into the depths of a mix of rainforest and dry vegetation.

Dive sites around the island are home to a variety of hard and soft corals, reef fish, reef sharks, turtles, 250 species of coral and approximately 600 species of reef fish.

In the famous manta ray habitat, manta rays can be seen all year round. Manta rays are large rays of the genus Manta and can reach up to 7 meters in width.

In some areas, there are many opportunities to see Mola Mola during the season (June to October).

Giant pelagic fish, reaching a height of about 3 meters, swim up from the depths to be cleaned by bannerfish (a type of butterfly fish).

Both of these animals are very large and can make fantastic photo subjects!

It is exposed to very strong ocean currents from the Pacific to the Indian Ocean, which can create very strong and sometimes violent multi-directional currents (downdrafts and updrafts).

Cold currents rising from the depths improve visibility and preserve coral reefs. Sometimes this thermocline can be as cold as 15⁰C.
